Where Should Pictures Be Placed On The Wall

Good wall decor can take your room from good to amazing. But even a very expensive picture or painting will look silly if it is not put in the right place on the wall.

Unless you invest in a  picture hanging system, it is important to know a few pointers before you start to put pictures on your wall. Keep reading to learn more.

Plan Picture Groups Beforehand

If you are hanging several pictures, you can create wonderful visual impressions if you consider picture spacing and arrangement. Before you hang several pictures, it is wise to make a blueprint on the wall of where you plan to hang them, if you think you can erase the pencil lines.

Or, put your pictures on a roll of art paper and cut squares around each one. Tape the square onto your wall so you get an idea how the picture arrangement is going to look when they are actually hanging there. It is much easier to move paper squares than rehanging pictures.

Hang Big Ones First

Big pictures should be put in the prime position in most cases. Hang them 57 inches from the floor, which is the average eye level. Give them the best positioning – really good pictures can be the centerpiece of your room. Do not put a big picture too close to the corner or the artwork will seem squished. If it has a foot or two of room, that is enough.

Put Smaller Pictures In Clusters Or Rows

It is not necessary to enter the room around large paintings or pictures. If a group of smaller pictures are grouped properly, it can catch the eye in a good way.

Adjust the grouping according to the room. Tight rows can be best if you have limited wall space. More spaced-out arrangements can use pictures of different sizes to make the room look modern.

Remember to make certain the edges of each frame is at a 90-degree angle to the picture next to it. Also, make the distances between your pictures the same.

Coordinate The Frames

Be sure that grouped paintings or pictures have similar frames. That does not mean every item must have the same frame. But there should be a similar theme for each frame in the group. For example, a picture group with all-black frames of different types will look better than a group with metal and bamboo frames.

Now you know how to place pictures on your wall, so good luck!
