What You Need to Know About Healthy Skin
Skin is one of the most important, and noticeable, parts of the human body. Because of its cellular makeup and function, its correct identification is as an organ. Among its primary functions is protecting internal organs, bones and nerves. In addition, the skin allows people to experience a sense of touch or feeling. So clearly, that outer surface is vital and needs proper care and attention.

Marks and Blemishes Will Occur
No matter how careful you are, you will inevitably notice abnormalities or blotches from time to time. Conditions such as acne are caused by clogged pores and you may see evidence of that in pimples or blackheads. Scratches are also common and with proper cleansing and an antibacterial ointment should clear up in a few days. Another familiar irregularity is discoloration. Again, there are many reasons why your skin might take on a darker hue as a result of tiny broken blood vessels after a bump. Typically, the color should also fade within a week. Excessive leg bruises with no apparent cause that increase rather than go away or that happen along with a nose bleed, could be more concerning and require a visit to a doctor.
Keep it Hydrated
It is difficult to overstate the necessity of feeding your skin with plenty of water. Simply put, fluids are the key to your exterior shell’s survival. Not only does it enhance elasticity and fortify against damage, but water also helps your internal organs flush waste out of your system and maintain a healthy body temperature. If you exercise it is even more important to replace what you lose through perspiration. Drinking one or two glasses a day is a great start, but you can also consult a hydration guide to get a better understanding of how many ounces you should consume in a twenty-four-hour period. While other beverages are good for you and will provide benefits, be aware that products that contain alcohol or caffeine can be detrimental to your skin, so you should monitor your intake of them as well.
Cleanse and Moisturize
To minimize breakouts and aid in the natural cycle of dead skin cells, you should wash your face at least twice each day. Every person has a different skin type from oily to dry or even a combination of the two. Therefore, you should research which products are best for you before you start a facial routine. If you wear make-up, work in an environment where your face is exposed to grease or dirt particles or if you sweat a lot, then you want to practice a consistent care program that involves a gentle cleanser. By the same token, you do not want to overdo it with harsh soaps. Rather, use natural bar soap because it contains ingredients like olive oil and beeswax to create a rich lather that quickly washes away dirt, oil and sweat. Harsh soaps will strip away the good oils that keep your face looking fresh. Further, some people may believe that applying a moisturizer is bad, but the opposite is true. Using the right cream is a wonderful way to nourish your complexion and help prevent wrinkles from forming.
Soak Up the Sun Safely
The sun is an excellent source of Vitamin D, and you need vitamin D to stay well. When your skin absorbs the sun’s rays correctly, you can fight bone decay, depression and muscle weakness. Of course, using sunscreen is also a smart decision because it can block the harmful aspects of the sun that can damage your network of cells. Remember to find an SPF that you prefer and to reapply if you are outside for an extended period. You can also wear protective clothing if that is a comfortable option for you.
Eat What’s Good for You
Finally, pay attention to what you put in your body if you want to take care of what is on the outside too. Foods are an excellent source of all the vitamins and nutrients that you need. Don’t forget, that your skin is an organ and requires nutrition to operate efficiently. If you are not sure where to begin, consult a nutritionist or dietician to set you on the right track.
As you can see, your skin is much more than it appears at first. Like any prized possession, if you want it to last a long time, you need to take care of it.
