Summer 2019: What The Trends Say
It would be fair to say that you don’t need to be a professional fashionista to understand that the trends in this industry are constantly chopping and changing.
This is something that we have become used to over the years, and if anything, thanks to the internet and fast fashion, this has become even more accelerated. A trip through Covent Garden will confirm this as well; on the high street, the trends are changing just as quickly.
In relation to this summer, there are, of course, more changing trends to mull over. Through today’s post, we will look at some of the biggest to prepare your wardrobe for.
Table of Contents
A return to 2018: oversized hats
If we were to wind the clock back to 2018, something that a lot of you might remember is the trend related to oversize hats. Well, it appears as though this has survived the test of time with the catwalks suggesting that this is going to be another favourite for this summer.
Jacquemus La Bomba was the brand that grabbed the headlines last year and following their success, a whole host of others have decided to follow suit.
A throwback to the 60s: tie-dye
For this next trend, we have to think a little further back, with tie-dye prints making a resurgence this summer. Of course, they have had their moments prior to this, but summer 2019 seems to be the year where they have really come to the forefront of fashion.
The stark difference to the 60s is obviously the chic-factor. Now, tie-dye is here with this attribute and is mainly being deployed as a maxi dress or sometimes as a matching two-piece.
Padded shoulders make another return
Over the years we have seen padded shoulders come and go, and now they’re back again. Naturally, each and every season they make an appearance they are here with a slightly different characteristic, and this time it’s about being as puffy as possible. In other words, rather than the square shoulders that we were once used to, this time the effect isn’t quite as structural.
Any garment that has a square neckline is likely to benefit, although the conditions will need to suit this. In other words, puffed shoulder dresses don’t go well with jackets or anything else that will try and cover their bulges.
Sequins keep on getting bigger, and bigger
We were almost tempted not to include this next point on the list, for the simple reason that sequins have been attempting to squeeze their way into fashion for some time.
For now, they just keep getting more and more prominent. The fashion shows have been dominated with them, albeit in slightly different styles. For example, some labels have gone all-out with the outlandish jackets that can be seen from a mile away, while others have been more subtle and combined sequins with sheer fabrics. Either approach will keep you on-trend, but it’s up to you to decide just how far you want to go.
