It’s great to have one of the unique automatic watches for men. Not all unique watches are expensive. Whether you have purchased one or you are still exploring an online collection of men’s watches, you need to learn how to take the best care of your watch. Proper cleaning and care are important to keep your watch ticking for years to come.

There are several reasons for taking the best care of your automatic watch. You should also pay attention to the maintenance cost of your automatic watch. How much you are paying and how much you should pay for maintenance or repair, you have to be aware of this. We have got some general care and maintenance tips for your automatic timepiece.

Wipe it every night

The easiest way to remove dust and other dirt on the strap, bracelet or dial of your watch is to wipe it every night. However, do this only if your watch is water resistant. Otherwise, doing this can cause damage to your watch.

If your watch is non-water-resistant then you can wipe it using a soft piece of cloth. However, make sure that you are not applying too much pressure on the face of your watch. It can cause scratches and even accidental breaks.

If your watch is water-resistant, mix water and any mild soap. You will also need a soft piece of cloth. You can also use a cleaning brush with soft bristles at the place of a soft piece of cloth. Wet the soft piece of cloth with a mixture of water and mild soap. Make sure that the crown of the watch is in the proper position. Now, gently brush the bracelet and other parts of the watch. Keep your watch in a safe place after drying it.

Remove it before taking a shower

All watch enthusiasts remove their watches when they are taking a shower. Even when your watch is a water-resistant watch, don’t enter the shower with your automatic watch on your wrist. Your watch can neither withstand hot water nor resist air.

Heat can cause the gasket to expand. This loosens the seal that protects the interior of your watch from the water. Most of the times, you cannot notice the signs of water damage immediately after the watch is exposed to hot water. However, you will notice fog formations on its dial after some time. Your watch will not be able to perform some of its operations properly. So, always remove your watch before taking a shower.

Keep it in a box when not in use

The box of your watch does not serve the purpose of packaging only. If you are not wearing your watch, keep it in that box. Don’t have that box sitting in your cabinet. Pack your watch nicely in that box when not in use.

Wear it

Your watch is an accessory of daily use. Your automatic watch will not work well if you just pack it in a box and put that box in your cabinet. An automatic watch depends on the energy it gets from your movements. Moving around with the automatic watch on the wrist begins winding the mainspring.

All general watch maintenance tips are easily doable. You do not need to spend money or much time to follow these tips. Just follow these tips accordingly and you will be able to keep your watch clean and well-maintained.
