Australia bushfire: Another death confirmed as NSW and Victoria bushfires heap pressure on Scott Morrison – as it happened Australia bushfire.

As of January 6, at least 22 people are dead and more than 1500 homes have been destroyed as fires continue to burn through more than six-million hectares of land across Australia bushfire.

Cooler weather has brought some relief to Victoria and NSW, with showers expected to give firefighters some respite before the heat returns later in the week.

The fire danger rating forecast for East Gippsland and the north east of Victoria on Monday is low to moderate, with temperatures of under 20C forecast.

The intense fire activity in the southeast and northeast of Victoria, however, is producing hazardous smoke conditions that are likely to worsen on Monday, EPA Victoria said.

And on the back of disastrous blazes in Kangaroo Island, a convoy of army vehicles with up to 100 reservists is heading to the popular tourist destination as the bushfire recovery gathers pace.

The blaze, which has burnt more than 155,000 hectares inside a 300-kilometre perimeter, is still active in some areas with authorities concerned about deteriorating weather conditions later this week.
