A Guide to Travelling This Festive Period

A Guide to Travelling This Festive Period

The festive period can be a wonderful time of the year and a great chance to spend time with loved ones, but it can also be a stressful period especially if you are travelling at all. This could be a drive home for the holidays, a long train journey to see friends or even a flight for some winter sun. Read on for a few tips for making your travel less stressful this Christmas.

Check Your Route Beforehand

Perhaps the most important tip is to always check ahead before stepping out of the door. This might include checking that the trains are running, that flights have not been cancelled and that the roads are safe. Crucially, take any do not travel warnings seriously as it could be dangerous to travel and it is not worth the risk. If driving in winter you need to make sure that you are careful and safe.

Give Yourself Plenty of Time

It is also important that you give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. It can be much busier travelling and the conditions can make it take much longer to get to where you need. You will not want to be rushed so allow yourself longer than you would if travelling at another time in the year.

Book in Advance

As mentioned, it can be much busier when you are travelling during the holidays so it is helpful if you book your tickets online in advance. You can easily book your train tickets online at places like Southern Railway which will give you one less thing to do on the day. You might find that it is also cheaper if you book your tickets online and in advance.

Travel Off-Peak

Similarly, it is a good idea to travel off-peak no matter where you are going when travelling over the holidays. This is because it will be much quieter, less stressful and cheaper. It is particularly true if you have a lot of luggage with you which can be difficult to manage when travelling during rush hour.

Find Ways to De-Stress

Travelling at Christmas will always be stressful and there is no way around this. It can be helpful to find a few ways to relax on your journey, though, such as listening to music/podcasts, reading, playing games or enjoying your favourite snack.

These tips should hopefully make your journey, easier, safer and less stressful over the holidays so that you can arrive feeling fresh and ready to get in the festive spirit.
