3. Don’t Use Too Many Products.
Dr. Julia Tzu, an NYC-based dermatologist, warns against layering multiple skincare products at once. This can lead to more breakouts and clogged pores.
4. Moisturize Throughout the Day And at Night.
Dr. Janet Prystowsky, an NYC-based dermatologist, stated that the best times to moisturize are right after you get out from the shower and before you go to sleep. Avoid heavy fragranced lotions, and ensure you choose a gentle moisturizer to be used every day with no irritation.
5. Do Not Touch Your Face.
Dr. Tzu suggests that you learn how to avoid touching your skin. It can spread bacteria, cause breakouts, or even cause scarring.
6. Hydrate Both Inside and Outside.
All of the skin experts we spoke with stressed the importance of hydration. According to Dr. Mona Gohara of Connecticut, “Lacking water can lead to less radiance and more wrinkles.” She recommends choosing products that are hydrating (cleansing and moisturizing, as well as anti-aging). You should also drink eight glasses of water per day.
7. Avoid Direct Heat Exposure
You don’t have to be concerned about the sun. Heaters and fireplaces can also cause skin damage. It can cause inflammation and collagen loss. Dr. Debbie Palmer, a New York dermatologist, recommends staying at least 10 feet away. Next time you roast chestnuts or make s’mores on an open fire, think about taking a step back.
8. Exfoliate a Couple of Times Per Week.
Dr. Gohara says that we lose 50 million skin cells per day, and without some extra encouragement, they can hang around, leaving our skin looking dull. You can fight this by choosing a pH-neutral product not to dry out as it exfoliates. Don’t stop at your face; exfoliating your entire body is important.
