The games played at a baby shower are arguably the best part of the whole event (besides getting to eat the baby-themed cupcakes or getting excited over all the adorable personalized baby gifts!). Over the years, some games have stood the test of time, such as the clothespin baby game or blind taste-testing different baby foods. However, you might want to incorporate some new, fun games into your baby shower. Here are some fun baby shower games that your guests will actually enjoy–making for an unforgettable baby shower experience!
Icebreakers
Not everyone at your baby shower will know each other, especially if you’ve invited a mix of people you’re connected with, such as friends, family, coworkers and church members. Get the crowd more acquainted with each other by having some icebreakers at the start of your baby shower!
- Embarrassing Stories: Have each attendee tell a brief, funny and slightly embarrassing story from their childhood or their children’s early years. For the Moms in the group who have adult kids, they probably have a few to choose from!
- Guess the Baby: Have everyone bring a photo of themselves when they were children (or send it to you beforehand!). Put up everyone’s photos with corresponding numbers and have your guests attempt to match the baby photo with the correct shower attendee.
- Unfreeze the Baby: Prior to the baby shower, fill ice cube trays with tiny plastic babies and water and then freeze them to use in each guest’s drink at the shower. Have each guest put one of the ice cubes into their drink at the start of the shower and the first person whose plastic baby has separated and melted away from the ice wins the game!
Sentimental Games
Some games aren’t really “competitive” games, so to speak. Some are fun activities that are meant to give both soon-to-be Mom and shower attendees a sentimental feeling. It’s always a good idea to have a few of these activities scattered throughout your shower. They’re the activities that make the event memorable!
- Memorable Messages: There are a few ways you can do this activity. Feel free to incorporate one–or all!–into your shower.
- The Diaper Method: Have your guests write on the backs of diapers with permanent markers to give you funny, inspirational or even practical pieces of advice! Make sure that you don’t look at them until after the baby is born. They’ll be a nice reminder to hang in there on the days where being a new Mom feels like the toughest thing you’ve ever done.
- Mom-to-Mom: Have all the Mothers attending the shower write down at least one piece of advice to you and then put them in a basket or bag for you to look at later. You could also have them say at least one piece of advice to the group, but write another one down for you to look at later.
- Letters to Mom: Early on in the shower, have your guests write a short letter to you. They can be lighthearted or more in-depth, sentimental letters of love, support and joy to the Mom-to-be. On the days where the going gets tough, you can open one letter to read how much your friends and family love and support you.
Competitive Games
Every baby shower needs a few fun, competitive games for the guests to play! Make sure you have some prizes on hand for the winners to reward their hard work in the games, like some themed personalized drinkware.
- Diaper Changing Time Trials: Find some plastic baby dolls, a pack of diapers and some cleaning wipes. After putting one diaper on the baby doll, set up some stations to do a diaper changing. Randomly pick several of your guests to change the diaper blindfolded. They will have to remove the diaper, “clean” the baby and put the fresh diaper on. Whoever gets done the fastest wins!
- Baby Scattergories: Have your guests take two minutes to write down all the songs, words or phrases that use the word “baby” in them! It will go by quickly, so encourage your guests to write as fast as possible. Whoever has the longest list wins!
- Price Check: List out different items that babies will need, such as one pack of diapers or one can of formula. Have your guests guess how much each of those items cost. Whoever gets the most correct wins! As a note for this one, since many parents get their items from many different stores, you should mention which store all the items are coming from. Brand names will always cost more than generic store brands, so making sure your guests know what you’re looking for will help them guess the prices faster.
- Chug the Bottle: There’s so much versatility in this competitive baby shower game! Fill a small baby bottle with a drink and have your guests playing the game chug it. Whoever finishes the drink the fastest wins! You can take it a step further and make the game more interesting by filling the bottles with alcohol. Consider using flavored liquor or mixed drinks! It’ll give the shower a wild streak!
- Guess the Baby Food: This game might be a classic, but it’s one of the most fun! Pick a few of your guests to participate in this game. Using a few different baby food flavors, put some on a few spoons and place the spoons on a plate. Blindfold some of your guests and have them each taste the different flavors and then guess what they are. Whoever guesses the most correctly wins! For an extra twist, add in some regular adult foods to trick the players.
Baby showers are such fun and special occasions! It’s the perfect event to bring together the Mom-to-be’s friends, family, coworkers and everyone else she loves to celebrate the birth of a new baby. Having a fun selection of games to play will make the event all the more memorable! Your guests will never forget their experience at your baby shower.
